The Star of Oman An elegy about Sultan Qaboos  By Joji Varghese Kuncheria The star that dawned the horizon, For five decades is gone for ever,  But the legacy is going to remain, As a beacon to lead generations. The people of the nation have seen, This super star reigning in the sky, With wisdom and understanding, Pursuing lasting peace at all times. A quality many refuse to embrace, Has made him a champion of peace, Overcoming the challenging times, Through patience and endurance. He devoted a whole life for the nation, To raise the living standards sky high, Bringing prosperity and a bright future, To the young and the old of his country. Though the star has eclipsed the skies, The laurels are eternal to Sultan Qaboos, For paving a way of peace, of harmony, For generations to relish in future years.                          *******

I enjoy this time like never before, With parents at my beck and call, Caring for me all through the day, Eating, playing or sleeping always. I dash in and out of the kitchen, To munch whatever I get to eat, Playing with siblings all the time, Hoping these days will never end. My parents are worried though, They say there's sickness outside, And we are locked up for weeks, I don't understand much of this. Momma teaches me at home, Papa works from home these days, Though I miss school and friends, I enjoy this time more than ever.               *******

From the child I have grown up into, From a loving and innocent child To a timid and fearful little one, To face the world as it unfolds. The world has become abusive To children in ways that are evil, That even little girls are not safe, So rampant is child abuse now. I am no longer a wandering butterfly, Free as before as a child I was, I now look in horror at this world Pagan and decayed to the core.               *******
