My poem "Democratic Decay" is in this Anthology published at Amazon.

Democratic Decay
By Joji Varghese Kuncheria

Man is born free and the ideal system,
That upholds equality, liberty, integrity,
And peaceful coexistence of all on earth,
Is none but only one - true democracy.

The ideals of democracy is now in question:
A person jailed is denied of his right to vote,
But a corrupt politician can contest elections,
From jail, even from multiple constituencies.

A person jailed can't get a government job,
But a politician jailed several times can be-
The President or the Prime Minister, shows-
How democracy has decayed in my country.

An uneducated being denied a white collar job,
In my country is the norm of a civilised nation,
But an uneducated can be a finance minister,
Is the paradox and mockery of democracy.

A secular nation with many ethnic groups,
And languages, our religious tolerance and-
Freedom of press are at stake with recent,
Religiously-motivated repression and violence.

The credibility of the elected has to be proved,
Instead they focus on maligning the opponent,
To be re-elected, thus fooling the electorate.
Yet democracy still is the best once rectified.

It is high time to bar criminals and looters,
From the entire political arena by legislation,
Paving the way for the clean and uncluttered ,
With true democratic values to rise up again.
