Our Dangerously Fragile World
By Joji Varghese Kuncheria
The poems below follow the 5-7-5-7-7 format: (Tanka) expressing a thought or feeling.
1.
at the bus station
a Florence after duty
brutally gang raped!
inside the bus she entered
no fire came down from heaven
2.
oh my serene land
the earth calls out for revenge
devour the rapists
the abettors of midnight
hear a forlorn mother's cry
3.
cow slaughtered for food
and the man beaten to death
a nation holy?
folly of the block-headed
no escape, no peace on land
4.
the righteous stoops down
to the corrupt and wicked
and becomes corrupt
a troubled fountain is he
corrupt spring has he become
5.
corruption rampant
a way of life to scorn with
people live by it
a curse to humanity
be bold, brave and uproot it
6.
tax payers money
stolen and taken outside
to hidden havens
endless looting continues
a curse of democracy
