The Agape Love
Joji Varghese Kuncheria

Not in my wildest dreams did I feel,
Of retiring from such a noble career,
Opening the hearts of many a young,
Though the poetry classes I cherished.

The value of real love have I learnt,
When I retired from my job lately,
Only a month ago to be precise,
Not so early but in my late sixties.

Love ne'er speaks however reveals,
Without action it's simply hollow words,
Love finds expression in what we do,
As it overflows from inside our hearts.

True love will simply be measured,
When folks come volitionally to assist,
When we cease to be of any worth,
That is real love, the Agape love.

I have tasted and learnt such love,
Trying to relocate once retirement,
A Herculean task so to deal with,
When unrelenting arms of help came.

Love is sacrificial and unconditional,
Without expectations or limitations,
A lot many people aren't sensible at this,
It's over  Philia, not just goodwill shared.

So let us learn the art of divine love,
Which we so lack in this world now,
"Love your neighbour as yourself"
Is all the essence of Agape love.
